Mission & Service

This congregation has a long history of mission outreach to the surrounding community and the world. Part of the church’s Statement of Ministry states: “We are called to seek and respond to the Word and the will of God. We hold it to be the mission of this church to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in our community, nation and world...and strive for truth, justice and peace everywhere.”

We carry on a tradition of service that began when one of our predecessor congregations helped found a neighborhood hospital. In the summer of 1968, Church of the Three Crosses provided sanctuary to peace demonstrators during the Democratic National Convention amidst a city in turmoil.

Today, the congregation hosts monthly meals at Deborah’s Place, partners with a church in Pilsen to support an after-school program for children, funds a variety of mission efforts through its monthly communion offerings, and offers its building for several support groups and other community activities.

Communion Offerings
Throughout each month, an organization is designated as the recipient of that month’s communion offering. These recipients are a diverse mix of social service agencies from those providing support to people who are homeless to agencies offering services to stray animals to those offering inventive educational programs to children. These agencies are both national and international in their scope as follows:

Deborah’s Place
Night Ministry
Lincoln Park Community Shelter
Cabrini Green Legal Aid
Ecumenical Ventures
Phila Camp - South Africa
One Great Hour of Sharing
World Communion Sunday
Reconciling Ministries
Howard Brown Health Center
Ceasefire
Women and Children House of Hope

“God has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. God has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”
Luke 4:18-19
